Description

Water Oak Live Edge Shelf Board

This water oak live edge shelf board is a dry, flattened solid wood
blank for a custom shelf or woodworking project. Board SB-001 has
a distinctive tapered shape, measuring approximately 33 inches
long and 1.5 inches thick. Its width reaches approximately
13 inches at the broad end and narrows to a point.

The approximately triangular outline gives you an alternative to
a standard rectangular plank. You can preserve the tapered shape
as part of your design or trim the board to suit a smaller project.
Consider the usable depth along the entire board when planning
where books, plants, or decorative objects will sit.

What Condition Is the Board In?

This is a shelf blank for further preparation. The wood is dry,
and its faces have been flattened. It has not been sanded,
polished, stained, oiled, or coated with a protective finish.
No epoxy or wood filler has been applied. You choose how much
additional preparation to complete and what appearance to create.

Flattening prepares the board’s shape but does not provide the
smooth surface of a finished shelf. Before finishing, inspect
both faces and the edges for areas that need sanding or attention.
If you want to retain a rustic appearance, decide which natural
details to preserve while still preparing surfaces that will
be handled or used to support objects.

Planning Your Custom Shelf

Lay out your intended project on the actual board before making
cuts. The listed 13-inch width describes the broadest end;
it does not mean the board is 13 inches deep throughout.
The narrowing end provides less usable surface, so check
the footprint of anything you intend to display.

The tapered outline may suit an asymmetrical display shelf or
a small decorative woodworking project. If you are considering
a corner installation, first check the wall angle and board
outline together. An approximately triangular shape does not
guarantee a precise fit into a square corner without trimming.

Preparing Your Water Oak Live Edge Shelf Board

Start by deciding the final orientation, dimensions, and edge
treatment. Complete any cutting or shaping before your final
sanding. Use a sanding sequence appropriate to the surface
condition and the finish you plan to apply, following the
finish manufacturer’s preparation instructions.

Filling natural openings is a project choice rather than a
treatment already included with this blank. Inspect any areas
you plan to fill, then choose a compatible method and allow
the repair material to cure before further preparation.
Remove sanding dust before applying your chosen coating.

Test stain or finish on a less visible area first. Clear finishes,
oils, and stains can change how the grain and color appear.
Prepare and finish the faces, edges, and ends according to the
product instructions. Allow the finish to cure before installing
the shelf or placing objects on it.

Mounting & Installation

Sold as one wood blank. Brackets, screws, wall anchors, and
installation are not included. Choose mounting hardware
appropriate to the finished board, your wall construction,
and the intended load.

Plan support positions around the tapered outline. Confirm that
the hardware fits the usable board depth and thickness, and
follow its installation instructions. A load rating is not
provided for this blank because the completed shelf’s capacity
depends on its preparation, supports, wall, and installation.
