Description
Pine Live Edge Shelf Board
This pine live edge shelf board is a dry, flattened solid wood
blank for a DIY shelf or custom woodworking project. Board
SB-002 measures approximately 32 inches long and 1.75 inches
thick. Its width varies from approximately 7.5 inches at one
end to 9 inches at the other.
The changing width gives this board an individual outline while
retaining the natural live edge. You can preserve that shape in
your finished shelf or trim the blank to suit your design. Before
planning cuts or supports, compare the board’s dimensions with
the space where you intend to use it.

An Unfinished Blank for Your Project
The board has been dried and flattened, but it has not been
sanded, polished, stained, oiled, or coated. No epoxy or wood
filler has been applied. This gives you control over the final
surface preparation, color, edge treatment, and protective finish.
It is supplied as a woodworking blank for further preparation.
Flattening and sanding are different stages of preparation.
Flattening establishes the board’s faces, while sanding prepares
their surface for handling and finishing. Inspect the actual
piece before starting work so you can choose the preparation
steps that match your intended result.
Planning a Shelf with Variable Width
The two width measurements describe the ends of this individual
board. They do not mean the board has a constant depth throughout
its length. When planning a display shelf, check the usable depth
where each object will sit, especially if you want to display
books, picture frames, pots, or other items with wider bases.
At 32 inches long, the blank can be considered for a wall display
shelf or a smaller custom shelving project, depending on the
available space and mounting arrangement. Make a simple layout
with the actual board before drilling, cutting, or purchasing
hardware. Decide which face and edge orientation best suit
your design.
Preparing Your Pine Live Edge Shelf Board
Complete any required trimming or shaping before final sanding.
If you want to retain the natural edge, work carefully around
its contour rather than assuming it should become a straight
line. Prepare any areas that will be handled so the finished
piece is comfortable to use.
Sand with a sequence appropriate to the starting surface and
your chosen finish. Follow the coating manufacturer’s guidance
for the final sanding grit and dust removal. Check both faces,
the ends, and the edge instead of preparing only the visible
top surface.
If you choose to fill any natural openings, select a material
compatible with the finish and allow it to cure before further
sanding. Filling is not included with this blank. Your project
may preserve rustic details or use additional preparation for
a smoother appearance.
Choosing the Final Appearance
A clear coating, oil, or stain can change how the pine’s color
and grain appear. Test your chosen product on an offcut or
less visible area before treating the whole board. Follow
the manufacturer’s application, ventilation, drying, and curing
instructions for the product you select.
Choose the finish for the shelf’s intended location and use.
Allow it to cure before installation or placing objects on
the surface. If you later cut or drill the finished board,
prepare and treat the newly exposed wood as appropriate
for that finishing system.
Mounting & Installation
Brackets, screws, wall anchors, and installation are not
included. Choose supports that fit the finished board’s
dimensions, your wall construction, and the intended load.
Confirm the hardware’s requirements before drilling.
No load rating is specified for this wood blank. The completed
shelf’s capacity depends on its supports, fasteners, wall,
and installation. Follow the mounting hardware manufacturer’s
instructions when positioning and securing the shelf.
